Golden milk is a warming, delicious combination of turmeric, plant milk, coconut oil, and other spices. Seriously, it’s so delicious! Even better, there have been an increasing amount of scientific studies done on the health benefits of the common ingredients added to golden milk.

1. Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric is a root related to ginger. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric that is responsible for its high-esteemed health benefits.

What’s even better? Curcumin is not toxic, so use as much turmeric as you want. Turmeric might just be a miracle spice with all its diverse health benefits:

Anti-inflammatory. Ahhh, the root of all bodily evils. Inflammation of any part of the body can lead to a number of health problems including arthritis, gastrointestinal disorders, and thyroid problems. Luckily, curcumin can reduce inflammation by inhibiting different chemical compounds that are part of the inflammation mechanism in the body. Curcumin is also beneficial for preventing inflammation from happening in the first place.

Reduce tumors. Reduce tumors?! Researchers have found that turmeric extract and curcumin actually decreased the growth of animal tumors.

Anti-fungal. Turmeric oil reduced the growth of fungi that grows on the skin, hair and nails. It also made skin blemishes disappear within a week. Pathegenic fungi was also repressed by turmeric oil.

Preventing cancer. In one study, researchers found that curcumin can prevent colon cancer, specifically colon cancer related to inflammation.

Improves digestion. A group of researchers investigating the effects of turmeric extract found promising results. Participants in the study took one or two tablets of turmeric extract daily for eight weeks straight. After the two months, about two-thirds of participants said their Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms improved.

Turmeric pretty much helps the body out with anything else:

  • Aging
  • Allergy
  • Arthritis
  • Atherosclerosis
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Gastric diseases
  • Hepatic diseases
  • Infectious diseases
  • Intestinal diseases
  • Neurodegenerative diseases
  • Ocular diseases
  • Oral cavity diseases
  • Pancreatic diseases
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Skeleto-muscular diseases
  • Skin disorders
  • Tobacco and cigarette smoke-induced injuries

2. Benefits of Coconuts

Coconuts are extremely versatile and healthy foods. Lauric acid is a medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA), the primary fat found in coconut oil. Your body uses this acid to destroy fat-covered viruses such as the flu, HIV, and herpes. MCFAs are easily broken down by the body to use for fuel and can even help lower body fat and enhance insulin sensitivity.

Cardiovascular health. The lauric acid in coconut oil can lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

3. Benefits of Black Pepper

Antibacterial. Black pepper, or more specifically, the active ingredient piperine, inhibits the widespread and deadly Clostridium botulinum.

Improves memory. Piperine helps prevent memory impairment, at least in rats.

Promotes nerve growth. Piperine, one of the active ingredients in black pepper, helps regrow nervous tissue in the hippocampus.

Besides having their own health benefits, adding black pepper and oil to golden milk increase the bioavailability of turmeric. Since turmeric is fat-soluble, it needs to be mixed with a fat for your body to extract its health-promoting compounds.

With all the benefits from golden milk, plus the tasty concoction itself, there isn’t any reason not to try it out.
